SOME IMPORTANT BAY COUNTY COAL PLANT FACTS.
UPDATE: The Comment Period has been extended through May 20.
If approved this expansion of the Bay County Karn-Weadock coal plant will increase its size by more than 7 times, emitting an additional 4,201,710 tons of (Carbon dioxide) CO2 in the atmosphere every year for the next 50 years.
-
Beside CO2 the expansion would also deposit 64lbs of Mercury, 1,820 tons of Nitrogen Oxides, 2,154 tons of sulfur oxides and 911 tons of particulate matter into our atmosphere every year.
-
According to MDPH, Bay County has higher rate heart disease & respiratory disease than Saginaw & the state average.
-
We need to stop the expansion of yesterday’s technology of coal-fired power and instead create a Clean Energy future for Bay County, by getting any additional energy needs from clean sources, promoting energy efficiency, creating clean energy jobs here in Mid-Michigan and reducing global warming pollution.
-
Now is the time to Repower, Refuel and Rebuild America right here in Mid-Michigan.
-
Consumers Powers coal plant size is based on the 21st Century Energy Plan which is no longer accurate in energy needs for MI. Consumers needs to eliminate this coal plant or submit a new application based on accurate energy needs in the 21st Century.
-
There is no Coal Ash Disposal system proposed. Toxic ash from the coal plant will continue to contaminate the local watershed and the Great Lakes.
