We Are Michigan Tour

THREE DAYS OF CONCERTS CONNECT GAY COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE

FERNDALE, ANN ARBOR, TRAVERSE CITY– Meefers.com a locally focused online gay-friendly publication, Fox on a Hill Production, LLC an independent Michigan based music and film production company and We Are Michigan an independent Michigan online publication are pleased to announce the We Are Michigan Concert Series. This three-day event takes place in a different city each day to help raise awareness about LBGT human rights issues.

Each event will feature various musical performances along with activists who will share their experience fighting for gay rights. Triangle Foundation Executive Director Alicia Skillman will be on hand to discuss various legal and political issues, including House Bill 4151 that could allow for second-parent adoptions in Michigan.

On Thursday April 30th., the first concert will be held at the Magic Bag in Ferndale. Rachael Davis, My Dear Disco, Nervous But Excited, and Chris Bathgate will be performing.

On Friday May 1st., the fun moves west to Ann Arbor where Nervous But Excited and Breathe Owl Breathe will play at The Ark, Ann Arbor's nonprofit home for acoustic music. Tickets are $15 at the door and the show starts at 8pm.

And finally on Saturday May 2nd., the We Are Michigan Concert will be at the Inside Out Gallery in Traverse City. Kalamazoo-based old time string bang Who Hit John? will be there along with songwriter Michael Beauchamp and local freestyle artist C Note to get the word out about the issues that affect the gay community.

“The goal of these concerts and the goal of Meefers.com is the same,” says Meefers Co-founder Matt DeWitt. “We aim to bring people together on a community-by-community basis with music, news, social networking, e-commerce and with other mediums we are developing. It’s all about connecting locally as well as broadly in a positive nature.” You can find out more about the We Are Michigan Concert Series on the events calendar of Meefers.com and at the We Are Michigan web site WeAreMichigan.org and our upcoming ads within Between the Lines and Metra Magazine .
