The Michigan office of The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC)
announces the launch of its "Faith Action Network"and
a new web-based resource, www.afsc-fan.org. Faith Action Network,
or "FAN,"is

Amendment

Ypsilanti residents rejected an amendment seeking to remove gays
from protection under the city's Human Rights Ordinance. The amendment
was defeated by 63 percent of the vote Tuesday in what opponents
called a rebuff to discrimination.
Putting
anti in Ypsilanti
If News Hits were not so darn polite, we would proclaim Ypsilanti
Citizens Voting Yes For Equal Rights Not Special Rights to
be a bunch of fascist, homophobic morons. But like we said, were
polite.
Judge
rejects gay rights opposition
It looks
like there won't be a vote in November on a referendum to cancel
civil rights protection for gays under Ypsilanti's charter.
Local
Efforts in Defense of the Bill of Rights
We support repeal of parts of the USA PATRIOT Act and Executive
Orders that infringe on Constitutional rights. This web site documents
and supports local efforts to restore civil liberties guaranteed
by the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution, which have been
threatened by the Act and Orders.
Funding
for anti-gay charter amendment comes from outside Ypsilanti, documents
show
The cost to put an anti-gay initiative on Ypsilanti's ballot this
November was $6589.69, and was paid entirely by former Dominos Pizza
CEO Tom Monaghan who hired a professional petition circulator from
California.
Ypsilanti
human rights law challenged
They used money from out-of-towners, hired outsiders to canvass
neighborhoods and put their own spin on what they told potential
voters.
Welcome,
Your Help and
Input is Needed!
Webmasters
and writers are needed in your city who have an interest in a broad
range of social and environmental issues, including, but not limited
to air, land, water, food, human rights and dignity.
The We
Are Michigan website is a statewide extension of a highly
successful website in NW Michigan entitled We
Are Traverse City.
One of the
primary purposes of the website is to share news from a wider source
including independent media, as well as community resources and
events in one convenient place, and to provide an opportunity for
a greater voice from the public in policy creation in your community.
If this website
is going to be part of an effective outreach, education, and advocacy
program, we need effective content. Please submit news stories from
your community newspaper, links to helpful local websites, and know
that your voice is always welcome to be heard if we are to have
a participatory democracy.
There is no
cost to joining the We Are Michigan web team, only a desire to make
a difference for the better.
