We think Gary Glenn, the AFA "hired gun" from Midland, has more productive ways that he might spend his time and energy than meddling in Traverse City politics.

Judging from the letters and comments we have received, the citizens of Traverse City believe Gary Glenn's anti-gay proposal language is deceptive and cruel.

Gary Glenn threatened the city of Traverse City with a lawsuit if they investigated the facts surrounding Officer Leach's conduct as the result of his claim of First Amendment right violations in issuing a rainbow sticker to be applied to his patrol car. The city did in fact conduct a thorough investigation. Traverse City completed their investigation, and issued their report, prior to Glenn's threat, via the Thomas More Center for Law & Justice, attempting to stop the investigation from taking place. The Leach investigation in regard to conduct was completed, and not stopped by Glenn. Yet again Traverse City demonstrated that we are capable of managing our own business without the meddling of Gary Glenn.	Failed

Michigan Marriage Amendment: The proposal amended the Michigan state Constitution to provide that “the union of one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement recognized as a marriage or similar union for any purpose.” [An e-mail from Gary Glenn indicates that the AFA supported the efforts of the sponsoring organizastion, Citizens for the Protection of Marriage. Dear Mr. Glenn:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate!! I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific Bible laws and how to follow them.

• When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors bitch to the zoning people. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

• I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. What do you think would be a fair price for her? She's 18 and starting college. Will the slave buyer be required to continue to pay for her education by law?

• I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual 'uncleanliness' (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense and threaten to call Human Resources.

• Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this does not apply to Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? Is there something wrong with them due to the weather?

• I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should this be a neighborhood improvement project ? What is a good day to start? Should we begin with small stones? Kind of lead up to it?

• A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. I mean, a shrimp just isn't the same as a you-know-what. Can you settle this?

• Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? Would contact lenses fall within some exception?

• Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die? The Mafia once took out Albert Anastasia in a barbershop, but I'm not Catholic; is this ecumenical thing a sign that it's ok?

• I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me 'unclean,' but may I still play football if I wear gloves? You can count on my support when you are ready to close down those pigskin pushers at the Hush Puppies company!

• My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

A Warning to Christians Everywhere :
After salvation by grace there is the danger of reverting to Law or legalism by taboos and force (Gal. 3:1-3). To go back to the Law as a way of life puts one under the control of the flesh, it nullifies true spirituality by faith in the Holy Spirit, and defeats the believer, resulting in domination by the old sin nature (Gal. 5:1-5; Col. 2:14f).
