Traverse City City Commission
Anti-Hate Statement

We are a city of people who openly and actively express our differences, but are always united in denouncing anyone who would spread hate and bias in our community. The differences we may have, we will resolve for ourselves.

On behalf of the entire City Commission, should the Reverend Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church come here later this month, we urge all the citizens of the Traverse City area to ignore any of the activities that he might initiate.

He would be coming here for the national publicity he might gain, and acknowledging him in any manner would be exactly what he would be looking for.
