blue jean online is an alternative to the beauty and glamour web sites and magazines targeting young women. The teen and senior editors and teen correspondents are the driving force of blue jean online. This coalition of diverse young women is dedicated to publishing what young women are thinking, saying, and doing. blue jean online profiles girls and women who are changing the world!

Colorlines War on Youth Page
ColorLines Magazine and the DataCenter's Impact Research Team have come together to create a set of resources for organizers and activists fighting against the War on Youth. Includes background articles, links and tools for activists.

Foster Care Youth United
Foster Care Youth United, which began publication in June, 1993, is the only bi-monthly magazine written by and for young people in foster care. FCYU is designed to give a voice to young people living in the system by providing a forum for an open exchange of views and experiences by those most impacted by foster care.

The Free Student
Which is available both on the Web and by e-mail, keeps readers aware of news of particular relevance to students. They run editorials, letters and the occasional original news story, but their central, daily feature is the News Caught in the Web. Recent subjects include politicians calling for censorship, the recording industry fighting Napster, and students fighting for freedom in Belgrade and Tehran.

Girltalkback
Girltalkback was founded in September 2000 in Reno, Nevada. Based on best practices research and innovative thinking, we create, promote and offer lifeskills, empowerment, and nontraditional programming for young women. Programs build self-esteem in order to prevent health problems, at-risk behavior and improve quality of life and economic power.

Hardboiled
Asian-American student publication out of Berkeley. "Hardboiled is a highly organized, take-no-prisoners, paramilitary journalistic juggernaut based at UC (United Corporation of) Berkeley. We live under self-imposed martial law to bring you the best in political rabblerousing, community muckracking, and pop culture machinations in the Bay Area and the world."

The Harlem Radio and Photography Project
WNYC and Columbia University offered a six-week radio workshop to a group of Harlem-based teenagers. Students aged 12 to 19 learned to report, write and produce radio stories and also how to compose and take pictures at the Photographic Center of Harlem. "The Harlem Radio and Photography Project" was partially funded by the Open Society Institute. Its young participants were given the tools to find and tell the stories most important to them.

Horizon Magazine
Horizon is published by a national nonprofit community development organization. Their mission is to incite interest and inspire action in young people and their communities. Through interesting features, celebrity profiles, interactive games and quizzes and personal essays Horizon's is engaging young people in a dialogue about community.

ListenUp!
Since January, 1999, ListenUp! has assisted more than 1,000 youth from diverse backgrounds in the researching, writing, production, editing and distribution of their own media. This project lets youth know that their work and voices are important and valued while contributing to an open climate for youth media production.

MediaRights.org
MediaRights.org, a community Web site, helps media makers, educators, nonprofits, and activists use documentaries to encourage action and inspire dialogue on contemporary social issues. Also on their site you can search for youth produced videos and they provide a free online workshop with web tools, articles, and links to help you produce and use media for social change.

Millennial Politics
READ about the many issues that we are covering in this book as well as the introduction which is already online. Also sign up for the newsletter and read our weekly thoughts about the politics of the generation. Even join or start a Millennial Politics book club to learn more about youth activism.

National Environmental Wire for Students
NEWS can hook up your campus newspaper with green stories, opinion pieces, photos and cartoons. Also, student journalists can visit their site for story ideas. For the very ambitious, they also run an Environmental Journalism Academy, where student journalist are trained to cover the environmental beat.

New Moon's Turn Beauty Inside Out Day!
New Moon announces "Turn Beauty Inside Out" Campaign. The May/June 2001 issue of award-wining New Moon Magazine will feature "25 Beautiful Girls". These girls (ages 8-14) were nominated by friends and family because of their Inner Beauty. This campaign of New Moon should tell us that girls are tired of the lie that beauty is all about appearance. In the meantime, visit the site and help them get the word out about the campaign.

New Youth Connections
Essays and commentaries in a print newspaper by young writers in New York City. "A citywide, teen-written magazine with a readership of 200,000 teens and adults. Speak Up
Speak Up gives us a much-needed voice for our creative works and social concerns and provides a quality format for the original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, plays, photography and artwork of a diverse group of 13-19 year olds from across the country and around the world.

Sex, ETC
A teen-written magazine about pregnancy, sex, love, relationships, HIV, STDs, and other issues. Sex, ETC is created by the network for Family Life Education and an teen editorial board.

VOX

YELL - Oh Girls!
YELL - Oh Girls! advocates creative self-expression as a form of empowerment among girls who are of Asian descent. Coupled with the imminent anthology of writings by Asian American girls, which will be released by HarperCollins Publishers in August of 2001, yellohgirls.com girls and women can and will engage in a dialogue about culture, identity, and growing up.

Youth Channel
The Youth channel is an alternative to mass media created to provide equal access to all young people, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or social status. The Youth Channel strives to build confidence.

YouthRadio/Youth in Control
Youth In Control is a project of Youth Radio. This newly launched site is a place where students at Youth Radio can express themselves in a multimedia environment while learning valuable skills in journalism and web, audio and video production. It is also a place where youth all over the world can interact with us and hear what we have to say.

YO! (Youth Outlook)
YO! is a newspaper written by and for Bay Area youth. It is distributed 10 times a year to schools all around the Bay Area. YO! includes essays, reporting pieces, cultural reviews and poetry.
