Nestlé / Ice Mountain Seeking The Right to Pollute With NO Accountability
Nestle wants to carve out a legal exception so it and other polluters can destroy the air, water, and natural resources of the state, like wetlands and headwaters of streams, on their own property, by making environmental laws unconstitutional such as the protections currently provided by MEPA. When enacted in 1970 under the leadership of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council, MEPA was hailed nationwide as a monumental accomplishment in the effort to protect the environment through citizen action. STORY DEVELOPING...
Rural Communities Exploited by Nestlé
Across the country, multinational corporations are targeting hundreds of rural communities to gain control of their most precious resource. By strong-arming small towns with limited economic means, these corporations are part of a growing trend to privatize public water supplies for economic gain in the ballooning bottled water industry. With sales of over $35 billion worldwide in the bottled water market, corporations are doing whatever it takes to buy up pristine springs in some of our country's most beautiful places. While the companies reap the profits, the local communities and the environment are paying the price. One of the biggest and most voracious of the water gobblers is Nestlé, which controls one-third of the U.S. market and sells 70 different brand names -- such as Arrowhead, Calistoga, Deer Park, Perrier, Poland Spring and Ice Mountain. Nestlé is not really the best model of a parent corporation. For over 20 years, it has faced pressure for its aggressive marketing of infant formula in countries with little clean water, which has led to a reduction in breastfeeding and increased risk for infants. According to Global Exchange, the policy "has cost the lives of over 1.5 million infants around the world. Nestlé's irresponsible attitude towards children doesn't end there. As a leading exporter of cocoa from the Ivory Coast, Nestlé has also been implicated in the ongoing abuse and torture of child cocoa laborers." And Nestlé's own contribution to the local economy in McCloud is questionable. In Mecosta County, Mich., where Nestlé opened a spring water bottling plant a few years ago, locals have yet to see the promised economic rewards.

Nestle
Sued for Falsely Advertising 'Poland Spring' Water
In a class-action lawsuit filed today, consumers claim that Nestle Waters North
America (Nestle), a subsidiary of Nestle S.A. (OTC:NSRGF.PK), falsely advertises
its top-selling Poland Spring brand bottled water. The suit alleges Nestle uses
heavily treated water taken from common ground water sources when bottling Poland
Spring, but then labels the bottles as spring water and charges consumers a premium
price for supposedly higher quality water.
Nestle
is sued for false claims about bottled water
Food giant Nestle has duped Americans who buy Poland Spring bottled water into

contamination, according to the lawsuit filed against a subsidiary of Swiss-based

There is often shock bordering on outrage in the rich First World,

why, on occasions, they are regarded as insincere, even hateful.

Perrier
foes apparently get wish
The high-capacity well permits held by Nestle Waters will expire
Friday and the company doesn't have any current plans to reapply.
"We are obviously not using them, so we are letting the permits
lapse," Lynn Morgan, public relations for Nestle (formerly
Perrier Group of America), said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
"During our search for a plant in the Midwest we looked at
Wisconsin and at Big Spring," Morgan said. "Nestle Waters
went to Michigan. The plant there is up and running and doing well,
so our site search has been fulfilled."
Perrier
pullout praised
The Perrier Group of America, (AKA Nestle Waters) had sought to
locate a water bottling plant at Big Spring in the town of Haven,
just over the line into Columbia County. Instead, the company will
focus on the plant it opened last May in Michigan, said Lynn Morgan,
a spokeswoman for Nestle.

In
Land of Kisses, a Slap in the Face
More than 50 years after his death, it's still hard to tell whether
Milton Hershey built a town to support his chocolate factory, or
a chocolate factory to support his town. Now, as the Hershey Foods
Corporation is offered for sale to the highest bidder, it's more
than the townspeople who are upset. All across the nation, people
are wondering what will happen to a classic American town that serves
not just as a tourist attraction, but a model of civic engagement.
Nestle

Nestle, the worlds largest food group, believes it will walk away
with lucrative U.S. rights to its KitKat brand whether or not it
wins a takeover battle for American chocolate icon Hershey because
of a deal dating back to 1970.
Nestlé
Offers Hershey Kiss
The growing hubbub surrounding the potential sale of Hershey --
now possibly to Switzerland's Nestlé -- is enough to worry
chocolate lovers throughout the U.S. as much as the threat of a
looming Major League players' strike gnaws at diehard baseball fans.
When you're talking about Hershey, you're talking about the addiction
of choice for millions of us. Not to sound jingoistic, but it would
just seem un-American for the company to have its headquarters overseas.
To all the parties involved, please exercise caution and a little
bit of reason.
